What Is Maxpkg
What is maxpkg?
maxpkg is a simple way to find, install, update, and remove 3ds Max scripts.
Think of it as a small app store for tools made by 3ds Max artists and technical artists. Instead of hunting through forum posts, zip files, old links, and install notes, you open a package page, press Install, and drag the install block into 3ds Max.
That is the main idea: less setup, fewer confusing steps, and more time actually working in 3ds Max.
Why it exists
3ds Max scripts are powerful, but installing them is often messy.
One tool asks you to copy files into one folder. Another asks you to run an installer. Another creates a toolbar button somewhere in Customize User Interface. Updates usually mean downloading a new archive, remembering what you installed before, and hoping you did not break anything.
maxpkg tries to make that flow calm and predictable.
- Packages live on public pages with screenshots, description, version, compatibility, license, and reviews.
- Installation can start directly from the website.
- MaxPkg Manager inside 3ds Max can search, install, update, and remove packages.
- Developers can publish tools as clean MZP packages.
What is a package?
A package is a 3ds Max script prepared as an .mzp file.
For artists, that simply means: it is a ready-to-install tool.
For developers, it means the script has a name, version, icon, compatibility range, changelog, and installation information. maxpkg reads that information so users can understand what they are installing.
Who is it for?
maxpkg is for 3ds Max users who want installing scripts to feel normal.
It is also for authors who want to share tools without writing long installation instructions every time.
Studios can use the same idea to keep artist machines more consistent: packages are versioned, visible, and easier to update.
The short version
If you only remember one thing, remember this:
Open a package page, click Install, drag the block into the 3ds Max viewport, and maxpkg does the boring part.
